Injury & illness insurance - Protect: Severance and Income Protection benefits

Protect administers Australia's leading personal injury and illness insurance cover for workers. This insurance policy is held by the Electrical Trades Union Victorian Branch and is issued by ATC Insurance Solutions.

Protect Injury and Illness Insurance, including Protect Extra Cover, is intended primarily to support members facing the challenge of non-work related injury or illness. Workplace injuries and illnesses are covered by your State workers' compensation scheme and, as such, no benefits are payable by Protect's insurers (except in the event of death or total disablement or if workplace accident top-up benefits are payable).

Protect Injury and Illness Insurance provides a range of insurance benefits to workers with an illness or accidental injury including:

Weekly income protection benefits
Weekly income protection payments of up to $1200*, for tradespersons unable to work due to an illness or injury outside of work.

Top-up benefits
Transport accident/ workplace injury top-up weekly income benefits for members with an accepted statutory workplace injury or transport accident claim.

3.

Lump sum death benefits
Lump sum death benefits with up to $150,000 paid to your dependants if you die as the result of an at-work injury or up to $50,000 if you die as the result of an injury outside of work.

Serious trauma (capital) benefits
Benefits for serious trauma injuries with Protect Injury and Illness Insurance are almost double the the capital benefits provided by similar schemes.

Plus, the comprehensive
Protect Extra Cover provides union members withan additional capital lump sum benefit of 50 per cent or more if they are a financial union member at the time of their accident and when they make a claim.

5.

Broken bones
Broken bones benefits of up to $5,000 for non work-related injuries.

For financial union members,
Protect Extra Cover provides higher benefits than the cover provided by similar schemes.

6.

Accidental dental injury
The total amount payable in lump sum benefits arising out of any one accidental dental injury - which results in multiple teeth damaged or lost- is $2,500. Accidental dental injury cover is subject to a maximum of four events, per family (i.e. you and your dependants), each year.

Additional insurance benefits
Additional insurance benefits such as return to work and rehabilitation assistance, extended unpaid leave cover, extended between-jobs cover, emergency home help, funeral expenses, domestic duties assistance and a chauffeur plan.
