Firefighter IP is reimbursed and not tax deductible
The Fair Work Order to provide Victorian firefighters with income protection insurance dictates that income protection premiums are deducted from fire rescue workers post tax earnings and simultaneously reimbursed via payroll for the same amount.
To take up Protect income protection, firefighters complete an authority form that advises the details of their insurance coverage. Wording from the authority form includes the following declaration:
"I understand that the amount reimbursed by my employer is not deductible in my personal income tax return and nor will that amount be reported as income on my annual payment summary."
For further information regarding the firefighter policy, please contact your union the UFU Vic Branch or a Protect Field Officer.
